Happy 10th FOXNews !!!

Thank God for Roger Ailes and FOXNews.

Ten years ago today Ailes & Co. launched the 24-hour cable news network which has gone on to crush main competitor CNN and force the girls at pMSNBC to fight the Knitting channel for viewership. 

I cannot imagine what a post-9/11 world would have been with only CNN around but I am pretty sure we'd all be speaking dirka dirka by now.  Scary.

Anyway - here's to another 10 years of Brit, John Gibson, Cavuto, Hannity, the Beltway Boys, Campaign Carl, Megyn Kendall, Brian Wilson, et al. (Two people I can do without: O'Reilly because well exactly how many stories can one country take about gangsta rappers funding illegal immigrants to make amateur porn on college campuses.....and Shep Smith who needs to be shuffled off to CBSNews or LOGO where he belongs).

Unfortunate Choice of Words

The Drudge Report linked to a story this morning about the possibility of Mel Gibson getting involved in a new miniseries, named "Flory", about a woman who survived the Holocaust with the help of a series of Dutch families during WWII.  The New York Times article discussing the project contained this unfortunate choice of words from an ABC executive:

Mr. [Quinn] Taylor, [ABC VP of Marketing] who likened "Flory" to ABC's critically acclaimed 2001 miniseries, "Anne Frank," cautioned that Mr. Gibson's level of involvement would not be determined until the miniseries is completed - which at this stage of any project is still a long shot - and he has seen it. "If it happens to be produced by Mel's company, it doesn't mean he's going to be out there flogging it like he did 'Passion of the Christ,' " Mr. Taylor said. (emphasis added).

Did Mr. Taylor think he was being cute?

Chappelle in Mental Hospital

RAM's not going to be happy about this one.  It appears that Dave Chappelle's show on Comedy Central will be on hiatus for a time as he struggles to deal with the success he has enjoyed as of late.  There are reports that the man who has helped Rick James live on has checked into a foreign mental hospital to deal with the effects of a recent nervous breakdown. 

I wonder what my employer would say if I couldn't come to work because I claimed I was "exhausted due to tension, partying and creative differences."

UPDATE:  In an effort to be completely accurate, the mental hospital is in South Africa.

Comedy Central star Dave Chappelle has checked himself into a mental health facility in South Africa, the magazine Entertainment Weekly reported on Wednesday.

I just thought about how silly this story is.  Chappelle is so exhausted and mentally broken-down that he flies all the way to South Africa for mental rejuvenation.  That is just odd.  I personally am not that broken up about the fact that the show will be on hiatus.  Unlike RAM, I have never particularly cared for his brand of hate whitey humor.

End of an Era

It is hard to believe that people get divorced even in Hollywood.  Never saw this one coming:

"We would like to announce that after seven years together we have decided to formally separate," the couple said in a joint statement released by Pitt's publicist Cindy Guagenti. "For those who follow these sorts of things, we would like to explain that our separation is not the result of any speculation reported by the tabloid media. This decision is the result of much thoughtful consideration."

Brad Pitt and Jennifer Anniston Pitt are over.

House MD

Saw this story about my new favorite television program this afternoon.  Fox Broadcasting Company's House is a program shown at 8pm on Tuesday evenings CST.  I have been trying to encourage my friends to watch this show so that it doesn't get cancelled.  My wife is convinced that it is headed for the dustbin of television's great abandoned shows because it is too intelligent and because the main character, played by Hugh Laurie, can be such a jackass. 

In the linked article, the author from the National Review notes that House is one of a growing number of television programs that have treated religion in a mature and respectful manner rather than belittling the role of religion in people's lives.  It is not a religious show by any means and the National Review article only discussed a single episode.  However, House's handling of the subject in an intelligent manner reflects its intelligent treatment of many issues.

Highly recommended!!!!  Now I better get home before it starts. 

(Just don't ask me to vouch for the accuracy of the medical discussions.  They may be hogwash for all I know)
