SABMiller Has Had Too Much Of Its Product
It appears that SABMiller has failed to adhere to the tag line "Drink Responsibly", as it has incomprehensibly chosen to sponsor a march in support of Illegal Immigration in the Chicago area. They obviously think that they can make more headway with the Latino community by supporting this demonstration than they will lose to those opposed to breaking the law. I like to think this was a miscalculation on their part. A big thanks to blog-goddess Michelle Malkin for the original link.
Here is my letter to the powers that be:
Dear Sir or Madam:
The purpose of this e-mail is to express my unhappiness with the article I read this morning in the Chicago Tribune concerning Miller's sponsorship of the immigrant march to Dennis Hastert's district from Chicago. Miller's decision to support a political movement dedicated to violating American law is nothing short of shocking and is highly distasteful. What are your marketing people thinking?
I have been a Miller Lite/High Life drinker since I turned 21 years old in 1997.
During that time, I have gone out of my way to find Miller products and have regularly sought out establishments that serve Miller. In fact, I have specifically avoided bars and restaurants that serve only Budweiser products. This will now change.
The only imaginable reason that Miller would sponsor this march is that Miller made a strategic decision that it would gain more market in the Latino community than it would lose among opponents of illegal immigration. It is my sincere belief that this calculation was wrong. I suspect that you have drawn the ire of countless American citizens with this bad decision.
I am not against immigration in the least. In fact, I support making it easier to LEGALLY immigrate to the United States. However, I and many of my fellow Americans, cannot countenance a corporation that supports a movement and march dedicated to breaking the law. For that reason, I will stop purchasing Miller products or ordering a Miller product while out to dinner until I see an acknowledgement by Miller that it has made a mistake. It is too bad that Miller had to get into taking political stands instead of sticking to what it knows best: namely, brewing the best beer in America.
Matthew
