There are few things less meaningful than a Congressional Committee hearing. Most of the time, Congressional hearings are no more than an opportunity for your representatives to hear themselves talk. (Much like this blog, but run at taxpayer expense.) For example, what did the Condoleezza Rice confirmation hearings accomplish other than to give Barbara Boxer an opportunity to make an ass of herself. Everyone knew prior to the hearing that the Senate was going to confirm her.
Well, Congress has given itself another great opportunity to spout off on a topic of which it knows nothing by holding hearings on steroids in baseball. What good does the House Government Reform Committee really hope to accomplish? Nothing. This is going to be another waste of time and money. The only thing that will be accomplished by these hearings is that some Congressmen will gain a little notoriety. Why do we need to keep rehashing this steroids issue anyway? Baseball, the beautiful game, has taken concrete steps in recent months to eradicate the scourge of steroids from its clubhouses. These hearings seem to me to be a case of Congress trying to jump on a bandwagon that has already departed.
