The venerable Senator Byrd hypocritically impugned the character and integrity of Condoleezza Rice in debate this week on her confirmation to the post of Secretary of State.
Byrd, the Senate's senior member, said Mr. Bush, with Rice's help, steered the country into an unprovoked and unjustified war based on false information that Iraq had been a training ground for terrorists.
"Dr. Rice is responsible for some of the most overblown rhetoric that the administration used to scare the American people into believing that there was an imminent threat from Iraq," Byrd said.
It seems that the Democratic party has made a determination to fight GW Bush every step of the way over the next four years and will choose its mosts strident moonbats like Sens. Byrd and Boxer to state its case. It is laughable that Senator Byrd would ever raise questions about the character of someone like Condoleezza Rice considering statements he has made in the past such as this (via Captain Ed at Captains Quarters):
[I will never fight] "with a Negro by my side. Rather I should die a thousand times, and see Old Glory trampled in the dirt never to rise again, than to see this beloved land of ours become degraded by race mongrels, a throwback to the blackest specimen from the wilds"?
Maybe through this statement, we see Senator Byrd's true motivation in opposing the nomination of Dr. Rice.
